You may not have realised, however, that BRO is also the name of a new social app just for men. It also appears a lot like a hook-up app. So is it a place for straight, manly men to date other straight, manly men? On further investigation, I think it might be a bit more nuanced than that. First of all, the ‘about me’ section is pretty straightforward, except there is one interesting section in there I went for ‘casual bro’, because that one seemed to require the least thought.

Amber Rose, the model and famed ex of Kanye West, recently stated that although she is attracted to men and women, she would not date a bisexual man. Despite this lingering stigma, the experiences of heterosexual women in committed relationships with bisexual men have never really been examined. But the new book Women in Relationships with Bisexual Men does exactly that. Co-authored by Maria Pallotta-Chiarolli, a lecturer in Social Diversity at Deakin University, and her co-researcher Sara Lubowitz, the work is based on the insights of 79 Australian women involved with bisexual men.
We spoke to Pallota-Chiarolli about her findings. Why did you decide to study the “straight women with bi men” dynamic? For the last eight years, I’ve been looking at issues around relationship diversity, and I found that women really wanted to talk about this, because it hadn’t been addressed. What were some of your most surprising findings?
A really beautiful finding from a lot of the women interviewed, which has shocked a few people, is that a lot of bisexual men—if you dealt with issues around openness and negotiation—made better fathers, lovers, and partners than hetero men. Why do you think these women reported that bi-sexual men made better lovers? Women reported that their bisexual male partners would want [them] to explore and have fun sexually—to be open to BDSM, or having another partner outside the relationship.
These women would often put it down to the fact that their partners [already] had to challenge normative constructs around being a man, because of their own sexual preferences. They were much more likely, then, to challenge those dominant and horrible misogynistic ideas of being a man.

Research has shown that a number of people who prefer not to identify solely as gay or straight is rising, with one study revealing only six per cent of young people now view themselves as exclusively homosexual.
While it gives them sexual freedom, it can destroy their relationships with families, leaving them open to prejudice and criticism in their everyday lives. Should he have to? Does it make his feelings any less real?

I went out on a ‘date’ with another anonymous blogger, the very charming Male Nanny. You can also read his account of the night ; it matters not which one you read first. If there’s one thing I’ve learned after going on dates with almost 50 men, it’s to expect the unexpected. I’m currently taking a break from the dating scene, the hapless loners and plump-chested braggers holding less appeal as the year wears on.
A whopping three months after my last date, I am asked, via Twitter, if I would like to meet by The Male Nanny , my very favourite blogger sorry to that blogging lady who posts pictures of her sodding cat all day – you’re a very close second, honestly. The twists here come thick and fast: he is straight, for one – not even remotely curious; and he has no idea what I look like.
Dating a bisexual can be a really intimidating thing. Just like straight or gay people, the vast majority of bisexual men and women will want a If a woman marries a man it does not mean that she is straight, and by the same token, marrying.
Or maybe he just likes to pretend that he does. Most guys in the world are straight. If you like men, it’s only a matter of time until you’re going to find a straight one attractive; they’re all over the place. Under most circumstances, this doesn’t have to be a big deal. You see a guy you like, you realize quickly enough that he’s straight, and you move on. Some of us might not want to give up so easily, however.
Though it’s probably not the best idea, some people let their feelings take over, and they become infatuated with a specific straight guy. Others have a strange attraction exclusively to straight guys, which makes dating other gay and bi guys difficult. So you may be asking yourself: How do you make a straight guy gay? Can you get a straight guy to be more flexible with his preferences? There are no easy answers to this. Some might be tempted to dismiss the possibility of heteroflexibility and tell you to leave the straight guy alone—but a lot of people’s orientations are more complicated than just a “straight or gay” dynamic.
